First of all, I am a senior undergraduate student in engineering. I have been using TI calculators since middle school and have been through them all - TI-30, 32 (and similar looking ones), TI-83, 84, and 89,
Recently I lost my calculator and I needed one for an exam, so I bought the only one sitting at the local Staples - this one.
I don't know why TI decided to change out the layout of buttons and stuff, but if you're buying this calculator for someone who has been using any of the TI calculators mentioned above, DON'T GET IT. Everything is off. log/ln/e^ functions require like 3 menus to go through to get to them, instead of simple buttons. "EE" button (for x 10 ^) is no longer there, but there is a "x10^" button, however, this is not the same thing, since it literally types (x10^) and you fill in the superscript yourself, and then have to click right on the D-pad to get back to the main row. Sin/cos/tan are hard to get to. Clear doesn't clear anything, just goes back to the previous entry that you might have entered like, last week.
You might think that the ability for the display to handle more kinds of input (such as subscripts etc) is good, but it's annoying. It takes me 5x longer to type a simple math expression that I could do so much faster with the other calculators.
Don't get this calculator. When you get into the heat of an exam, simple things like "clear" not clearing, and having to press 10 more buttons than normal just to get ln, become an issue and might impact your grade.
Get one of the other TI calculators I mentioned above.

The placement of the Enter/Equals key has been shifted due to the presence of the fraction/decimal key. Calculator is unusable due to this design decision.
Plastic cover is very flimsy, unable to withstand any meaningful pressure without popping out of the grooves.
